MBABANE – The Mbabane parkrun continues to attract more runners. Yesterday, Manzini Wanderers Management Committee Chairman Bongani ‘Bhanyaza’ Mdluli was among the 110 runners who participated in the weekly 5km run. Mdluli made a stop at the parkrun before heading to Kamhlushwa Stadium where Wanderers were playing a series of friendly games against South African teams.

He was also joined by newcomers in Sibusiso Makhabane, Bongiswa Madonsela and Siyamthanda Dlamini. Others first-timers were Siphesihle Vilakati, Samukelisiwe Nhlabatsi, Asemahle Shabangu, Dumsile Mavuso and Sinenkhosi Vilakati.

Mdluli said he was happy to be part of the parkrun and was looking forward to the next edition.

“Exercising is my lifestyle and in the past I have participated in the Imbube Marathon, FSRA Marathon among other races,” Mdluli said.
When asked how he knew about the parkrun, he said saw stories in this publication and decided to join.

“I retired from soccer. However, nothing will stop me from exercising because I know the benefits. Besides keeping fit and healthy, you keep a doctor away when you exercise and I would encourage others to join the Mbabane parkrun. It is free and the race is open to both competitive and social runners,” he said.
While others were first-timers, Xolani Ngcamphalala completed his 50th run out of the 121 total runs.

Meanwhile,  the winner of the parkrun was Zwelithini Mndzebele, who clocked 15:36 minutes. He was six seconds shy of beating his personal best time of 15:31 minutes.

“For me it’s not about winning but building my speed and endurance for upcoming races like the night run and Imbube Marathon,” Mndzebele said.
The female winner was Debbie Hawley who finished the race in 25:10 minutes and she completed her 25 parkrun from a total of 121 total runs.
