MBABANE – A strong-looking Sihlangu squad will face Djibouti in a World Cup qualifier in about 10 days time.

Sihlangu head coach Kostadin Papic has named a 27-member squad that will be in camp from this coming Sunday at the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Technical Centre in Lobamba ahead of the away September 4 fixture.

The list of the selected players is headlined by Eswatini’s exports comprising the quartet of Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu, Justice Figureido and Felix Badenhorst, who are all attached to Mbombela United from South Africa’s National First Division League. Also making the cut is winger Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze, who is at South Africa’s Absa Premiership side Polokwane City.

The Eswatini internationals return to the national team set-up for the first time since May. They were excluded in the recent match-ups against Angola and Malawi, as they were ineligible to feature in African Nations Championships (CHAN) games, which are for players in domestic leagues. Out of the squad is Mbombela United goalkeeper Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza.

EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe released the list of the players yesterday.
“The national team will be preparing for the upcoming 2022 World Cup Qualifier match against Djibouti on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 in Djibouti. Kick-off time is 5pm Eswatini time.

“The return leg is on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the Mavuso Sports Centre at 3:30 pm,” said Radebe.
Meanwhile, a majority of the players who did duty in the CHAN qualifiers made the cut. They include Mbabane Swallows goalkeeper Sandanezwe Mathabela and marksman Sandile Gamedze of Young Buffaloes.

There is still no place for Manzini Wanderers’ highly-rated youngster Leon Manyisa in the team. The players will report to camp after Sunday’s MTN Premier League games. The squad will be trimmed to 20 players before the trip to Djibouti.
