LOBAMBA – A Siboniso Lukhele brace inspired Mbabane Highlanders to a 2-1 win over Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows at Somhlolo National Stadium last night during game two of the MTN Premier League.

Despite the win, Highlanders lodged a protest appealing against Allen Mabuza, who they claimed was suspended by the Eswatini Football Association Status Committee. The game was delayed for close to half an hour pending the proposed Highlanders protest before the start of the game.

confirmed

Despite the protest, Black Swallows fielded Mabuza. Highlanders PRO Paul ‘Magidza’ Masilela confirmed that they lodged the protest.
In the early exchange, Black Swallows thought they were denied a penalty when Allen Mabuza was hacked after taking a shot inside the box but referee Mbongeni Shongwe saw nothing sinister 13 minutes into play.

Highlanders were disallowed a goal after Lukhele was judged to have played the man than the ball on Black Swallows goalkeeper Chidera Okpara in the quarter hour mark. Lukhele eventually got his goal after heading home a Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze corner kick in the 17th minute.

matters

The Alou Badara-led charges leveled matters five minutes from the half hour through Linda Manana, who headed home from a spilled ball from Highlanders goalkeeper Phila Mamba. The ‘Black Bull’ regained their momentum in the 32 minutes after Lukhele tapped in a Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze corner kick. After resumption, fatigue seemed to be catching up with the home side. The Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini-led team, took advantage and were attacking in droves in the second half but they missed a number of glorious opportunities that they created.

Former Young Buffaloes midfielder Lindani ‘Rio’ Matsenjwa made his debut and was a marvel to watch at the centre of the park.
The ‘Black Bull’ were without key players such as former Kaizer Chiefs player Punch Masenamela, Stellenbosch striker Josef Lekata, Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule and Menzi Sithole. The win took Highlanders to the third spot with four points after two games. They played to a draw in the opening game against Green Mamba.
