MBABANE – This Sunday is certainly going to be an interesting one for the local fraternity – in particular the fans.

The EswatiniTelecom Charity Cup, trading under the tagline ‘Yam’ Nawe, S’phakeme Futsi’, is getting underway at Somhlolo National Stadium in Lobamba.
Capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders, who play Royal Leopard in the first semi-final at 8:30am, have been quietly preparing but the latest news suggests they are on a serious path about the Charity Cup.
It has reliably been established that the black and white giants, who have won the Charity Cup at least four times, the last being in 2010, quietly left the country last Sunday for camp in South Africa, Mpumalanga Province.
Officials and players from the club were reluctant to give any details of their camp to the extent that their exact location could not be ascertained.

However, they still affirmed to be nearby in South Africa across the Oshoek Border. “Regarding the camp, it is true that the team is camped outside the country,” the club’s Head of Communications Bhekisisa Dlamini could only say.
It was only established through close sources that they were in South Africa around a small town in the Mpumalanga Province.
“They are expected back tomorrow (today) or Friday and they are not very far off but in the Mpumalanga Province where they’re sharpening up for Sunday,” said an impeccable source.
One of the reasons they are expected back in the country today is that Dlamini had said last week that they would unveil their new signings ahead of the Charity Cup on this day.

The three other clubs, Mbabane Swallows, Manzini Wanderers and Leopard, have all confirmed some of the new signings to be expected on Sunday. It is not the first time for Highlanders to camp outside the country this year.
Lost
In March this year, they were in South Africa ahead of the Ingwenyama Cup final, which they lost 1-4 against Young Buffaloes. Meanwhile, Highlanders have insisted they were under no pressure to unveil their new stars but would do so when they deemed fit.

Furthermore, Highlanders’ supporters will be delighted to know that senior national team Sihlangu midfielder Menzi Sithole is also part of the camp despite his Angola woes over the weekend.
The midfielder was left behind in Angola when the national team returned on Sunday afternoon due to issues of alleged mistaken identity by Interpol.

However, it was all sorted and he returned in time along with squad’s head of delegation, Nigel Shongwe. The only player left behind was defender Jimoh Moses, due to alleged passport issues.
Meanwhile, a grand prize of E1.1 million is up for grabs on Sunday. Swallows play Wanderers at 10:30am in the second semi-final before the final at 3pm.
