MBABANE –Eswatini Schools Sports Association (ESSA) Treasurer, Lucky Dlamini, remains in the race for the hot seat at Lubombo FA.

The Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA) will have elections to replace the late chairman, Mangaliso Sihlongonyane at Siphoso Primary School outside Siteki on Sunday, starting at 9am.

Contrary to reports from one of the local publications, Dlamini is among candidates who made the cut. Other candidates include former chairman in erstwhile Eswatini Football Association Vice President Nichodemus ‘Ace’ Mashwama and Richard Shongwe, who is an executive member at LRFA.
LRFA Secretary Sicelo Nene said the initial exclusion of Dlamini was an oversight on their part, saying the error was rectified.

“All the candidates underwent a screening process. We have three candidates ahead of the elections,” said Nene.
Dlamini, who is in the EFA finance committee, preferred not to say much on the issue, saying he was just relieved that the nightmare of being excluded was now over. The latter is also coaches’ chairman at Lubombo. He coaches Malindza-based Lubombo Super League side Bhelebane FC.

Meanwhile, Nene said it was almost all systems go for the meeting, saying his office would liaise with the country’s football mother body regarding the electoral officer.
Sihlongonyane, on the other hand, passed away in June 2018 after he fell ill during an international trip. Vice Chairman Sifiso Shabalala kept the fires burning.
