LOBAMBA – Sihlangu have been dealt a major blow ahead of the 2020 CHAN second leg match against Angola, as they will be without in-form attacking midfielder Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze.

The Young Buffaloes marksman was left behind together with five other players, including Green Mamba’s duo of Banele Mdluli and Phinda Dlamini, as well Manzini Wanderers’ Jose Machado, Mlaba Makhanya of Tambuti, Wandile Maseko from Young Buffaloes and Muzi Tsabedze of Manzini Sea Birds.
return

Sihlangu coach Kostadin Papic was hoping that Gamedze would feature in the return match having missed the first leg that ended 1-all draw on Sunday at Mavuso Sports Centre due to an ankle injury. Gamedze was the scorer in the 1-all draw against Malawi away that saw Sihlangu making it through to the second round.

Sihlangu play Angola on Saturday at 5pm (local time).
“When our medical staff checked him on Tuesday, they concluded that he was not ready to play. It is a major blow for the team but there are other players who are ready to fit in. There are youngsters that have shown their potential in filling in those boots,” Papic said.

Musa Dlamini, who was relegated to the stands in the last outing, on the other hand, has surprisingly made the cut.

selection

Papic added that he had to make a selection as not all players were to travel. Some players, including Phinda, Muzi Tsabedze were left out of the squad before the first leg that was played at Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday.

The Serbia-born gaffer said they were going to Angola for victory as they wanted to make it through to the third round. If Sihlangu qualify for the third round, they will play the winner between Botswana and Zambia who played a goalless draw in their first leg last Friday.

Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, on the other hand, believes that Sihlangu can conquer in Angola. Having watched the team in action on Sunday during the 1-all draw in the first leg match, he said the team can be victorious in Luanda
