MBABANE – The local parkrun is getting more recognition. This is after over five international runners took part in the 116th edition of the Mbabane parkrun yesterday. The race started and finished at the Mbabane Club. There were over 100 runners who braved the cold morning breeze at the trails of the Mbabane Golf Course.

Some of the runners were from Lesotho, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Mpinane Polonyana, from Lesotho, was joined by her friend from South Africa Lindiwe Seotsanyana.Others from South Africa were Louisa Monama who is from Pretoria and Thozama Mavuso from Bloemfontein. Zimbabwean nationals were Hamfrey Sanhokwe and Dalson Ngirazi.
Seotsanyana said she had a great time at the parkrun.

“It was an awesome experience. The people here are friendly and welcoming. The route was challenging on the first lap and it was easy on the second lap as it was more like a down run. We came here to visit friends and we decided to join the local parkrun,” Seotsanyana said.
Polonyana said this was her first time partaking in a parkrun.

“It was an amazing experience altogether and I wish we had it in Lesotho. The local runners were friendly just like people from my country,” she said.
Monama also said it was a refreshing experience and she would definitely come back for another run.

Mavuso said her main objective in participating in the weekly 5km race was to better her time.
Meanwhile, the winner of the race was Sikhumbuzo Sihlongonyane while Gugu Mthembu reigned supreme in the ladies category.  They reached the winning point after 15:46 and 21:56 minutes, respectively. It was a personal best (PB) for the former.
