MBABANE – A new challenge for cyclists lies ahead as they will debut in the East-West Road Classic on Sunday in Buhleni, in northern Hhohho.

The race featuring a 130km classic will be hosted by Dig Deep Racing Club and it includes a 60km, 20km and 10km. This is the first edition of the race and it is unique as it will be held in the northern part of the country.

The race will be held just a week after the Mormond Stix MTB Classic held at Manzini Club on Saturday, but this one is a road race. Dig Deep Principal and Coach Joseph Waring said all cyclists were invited to come in numbers and enjoy the first edition of the event.

He said the race was open to all age groups considering the different categories.  The classic race will start at 8am and its E200 for registration with the 60km starting 30 minutes later and the last race to begin is the 10km at 9am:

Waring said there were international cyclists coming for the race but he is yet to confirm the numbers. He urged the locals to come in numbers especially those along the sugar-belt side. He said the race was bringing and promotion tourism in the small town and developing Buhleni.

“Thanks to our sponsors, AG Thomas and Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF), the Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA) for their continued support. It will be a lovely day for riding and people must come and ride,” he said.

Waring then urged motorists to be on the lookout for cyclists as to avoid accidents.
He said they were working very closely with the Royal Eswatini Police Services (REPS) in making sure that the race was well organised and all stakeholders were safe.
