MALKERNS – South Africa-born Ndumiso Dlodlo was yesterday crowned the overall champion of the Barbosa Classic Wellness Festival.

He claimed the first prize of E5 500, two trophies and a gold medal. Last year’s champion, who has since retired from the sport, Simanga Maziya did the official handover of the title to Dlodlo and also performed his famous poses. This was the seventh edition of the Barbosa Classic and the previous event was held at Emfuleni Lifestyle in Ezulwini.

“I am very excited to be the winner and I hope to bring more athletes to Eswatini in the end-of-year competition. This victory was hard earned, I must say and the bodybuilders from the Kingdom of Eswatini are really pushing. This sport demands hard work and dedication if you want to see positive results,” said Dlodlo while applauding emaSwati for their enthusiasm.

The event, which took centre stage at House on Fire in Malkerns, drew contestants from the Kingdom of Eswatini, South Africa and Mozambique. Over 200 spectators, including locals and visitors from neighbouring countries were also thrilled by the muscles show and the musical performance by local hip hop artist Illa Penboy. Local comedian Dr Shakes left the crowd in stitches during his performance.

Other winners included Patric Kamenga, who was the best in the Men’s Physique category as he ticked all the boxes and wowed the crowd with his poses, stage presence, muscle definition and symmetry. Last year’s winner of the Ladies Sports Models category, Neli Nkonyane retained her title.
Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) Under-65kg defending champion Sanele Ndlamlendze fell into third place after a tight contest for the crown.
The show was also graced by the presence of International Federation of Bodybuilding judge Paulo Marquez, who also took to the stage to present the athletes.
The host of the show, Arnaldo Barbosa, lived up to his promise of bringing a show-stopping competition. His contribution to the development of bodybuilding in the Kingdom of Eswatini was appreciated and the support shown to other fitness trainers who attended the show.
