MBABANE – His name is Percy Shongwe. After working with Red Lions, Manzini Wanderers and Manzini Sundowns’ juniors, he found himself in the senior Wanderers’ technical bench. Last season, he was with Sundowns’ under-20s but continues to move on in life.

Shongwe was last Saturday sporting a Mbabane Highlanders’ Adidas track suit which clearly defined him as part of the team, especially because he was seated with the players who were clad in the same outfit. He was later approached about his presence and the Highlanders’ outfit.

“I’ve joined the team as goalkeeper coach,” he briefly said before referring further questions to the club’s management as he tried everything to avoid the camera.
Called about it again yesterday, he said this was a challenge he was qualified and ready for.
“I want to thank the PLE Development for affording me the opportunity to grow and gain experience. Through that league, I am where I am today and I thank PLE for everything,” he said before insisting the club’s management had the authority to comment and not him.

The Head of Communications and Secretariat Gcina Dlamini was diplomatic in his response despite that other officials confirmed Shongwe was their goalkeeper coach.
“The technical team will be fully introduced in future,” he said.

Meanwhile, the technical team consists of Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini, as technical Director and Andries Mpondo as interim head coach, among other people. The duo led the club’s new players’ selection last Sunday at its training base in Ezulwini. However, by yesterday, the technical bench was said to be still assessing their shortlisted candidates as some passed the first phase while others failed.
