MBABANE – Former Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Vice President Nichodemus ‘Ace’ Mashwama and PLE Executive Committee Member Rudolph Matsenjwa are reportedly among nominees for the vacant hot seat at Lubombo FA.

The chairmanship post at Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA) became vacant after the untimely death of seasoned administrator Mangaliso Sihlongonyane in June last year. During the August 4 General Assembly, the latter will be replaced. Following the end of the nomination exercise last Friday, it was reliably gathered through impeccable sources that four candidates made the cut. They include Mashwama, who was succeeded by Sihlongonyane at LRFA, as well as Matsenjwa. The latter is Premier League outfit Tambuti Chairman. He is also an executive member of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE).

Other nominees, according to sources, are Sifiso Shabalala, who is the acting Chairman, as well as Lucky Dlamini, who is Eswatini Schools Sports Association (ESSA) treasurer. LRFA Secretary Sicelo Nene could only confirm that the nomination exercise was complete, but said the list of the candidates would be released after screening next week. “We have candidates for the post, but they will be screened as per the constitution before being made public,” he said. To qualify for the post, the candidates do not necessarily need to be members of LRFA. One of the requirements is having a qualification in administration.

Meanwhile, Mashwama, who is one of Eswatini’s celebrated soccer legends, last served as LRFA Chairman in 2013. He made way for Sihlongonyane as he was ineligible to serve in the regional football body while he was EFA vice president at the time.
