MBABANE – He will be away for at least one full season.

That is Eswatini international Colani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze, who has been offered a one-year contract by Mozambique top side Desportivo de Maputo. According to information gathered by the Sports Desk, the lanky midfielder was out of contract at his former team, Mbabane Swallows, at the end of the 2018/19 season. He then managed a deal with the Portuguese-speaking nation’s football team, which his former team in Swallows had nothing do with. Sikhondze negotiated the deal with Desportivo on his own. He was out of contract at the ‘beautiful birds’ and he negotiated the deal on his own for the move to the Mozambican side save for the fact that Swallows only gave him a clearance to join the  neighbouring country side.

Drawn for comment, the player confirmed that he would be with the Mozambique Premier Division outfit for a whole season. “I have signed for a season with Desportivo,” said the gifted midfielder. The former Manzini Wanderers player, who is an elder brother to another Eswatini international in South Africa’s Polokwane City’s Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze, felt this was the only appropriate information to disclose to the media.

Sceptical

He was sceptical in disclosing his sign-on fee to the Mozambican side. ‘Papi’ also chose not to disclose his monthly pay as per their agreement with Desportivo. However, the most expensive player for Desportivo is Dainho who is worth 12 000 British pounds and the money translates to E215 753. 34. Dainho is also among the highest paid players and receives 40 British pounds per month which is equivalent to E718.90.
