MBABANE – They met her on Tuesday. That is Mbabane Swallows’ Council of Elders and the team’s boss Princess Lungile.

The two parties met following their administrative challenges that have led to the resignation of the club’s Management Committee (MC) including General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane.

The meeting took place at a time when speculation was rife on social media that Princess Lungile and the acting MC had all stepped down but such was unconfirmed at the time of going to print on Tuesday night. “We had a good meeting with her and I can assure you that it was successful because she’s not going anywhere. She loves her children, which is the players, and told us God gave them to her. She knows she has our backing as elders and that of the supporters,” claimed the elders’ chairman Absalom Ngwenya yesterday.

He said from their meeting, it transpired that the princess had her concerns but allegedly made it clear ‘there was no way she could abandon’ the players.
“There’s not a sign that she’s going to leave us. Things are okay and she told us she cannot be forced out by anyone or anything,” Ngwenya alleged.

He even went on to label Princess Lungile, widow to slain former Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) and Swallows Chairman Victor Gamedze, as a mother of all things Mbabane Swallows. Ngwenya refused to commit himself to the details of the allegations that had been levelled against the resigned MC on alleged transfer funds abuse or misuse thereof.

He also declined to comment about comments pointing to the club being ‘captured’ as alleged anti-Swallows people have been given positions. “That’s not for me to talk about. All we want as elders is to see stability in the club,” he insisted.

Efforts to get the princess proved futile as her cellphone rang unanswered when sought. Meanwhile, after the resignation of the MC last week, the princess put in place a temporary structure to keep the fires burning, appointing as the chairman, Khaya Vilakati who has served in the club before as an official while former Red Lions’ PRO Comfort Shongwe holds the same post in the Beautiful Birds as they are also fondly known.
