EZULWINI – Security forces teams have reportedly been cleared of accusations of unfair advantage over the other teams.

The Mashumi Shongwe-led task team that was assigned to look into the alleged unfair advantage of security forces over the rest of the teams tabled their findings and recommendations before club owners (Premier League of Eswatini Governors) during a retreat at Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini yesterday. Security forces teams in the Premier League are Royal Leopard, Green Mamba and Young Buffaloes.

The media was not allowed to listen to the submissions at the retreat, but it was reliably gathered through impeccable sources that tempers flared, as the task team presented, in some of their findings, that there was no proof that the security forces sides abused government resources. The security forces teams denied abusing government resources, saying that would have been cited in the country’s auditor general’s report. According to the sources, they only admitted to have access to government vehicles.

findings

According to the impeccable source, most of the governors were not satisfied with the findings, rejecting it completely while others suggested that a new task team be established to investigate the issue further. This suggestion reportedly led to a showdown, as the task team felt their efforts were being undermined. That was when the alleged exchange of heated words ensued.

At the end, it was resolved that the report be taken back to the Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula-chaired PLE Executive Committee for further scrutiny and inputs. The executive committee will further consult with the Eswatini Football Associating and then take the report back to the governors.

In a press briefing at the hotel, the PLE Chairman (Magagula), who was joined by Executive Committee member Sicelo Mkhonta and CEO Simanga Nhleko, said the report would not be released to the public pending the finalisation of the internal processes. Magagula said the report would be released after his office’s general assembly, which is set for August 4.

“Like the governors, the executive committee saw the report for the first time today. We’ll work on it, make our own recommendations and take it back to the governors,” he said.

Magagula said the deliberations were headlined by both the armed forces teams report and the proposed constitutional amendments. He stressed that the outcome of both exercises would be known after the annual general meeting in August.

resolutions

Meanwhile, the resolutions to form the task team were taken back in April by the governors in another retreat at Lugogo Sun in Ezulwini. It was felt the playing ground was not level and there was need to look into the alleged unfair advantage of the armed forces. Other members of the task team were Sibusiso ‘Scorpion’ Nxumalo of Matsapha United, Vovovo’s Sipho ‘Tsetla’ Bhembe, Ellian Masuku as well as representatives of the security forces sides.

The retreat, on the other hand, was facilitated by the fast-growing KhosiKen Sports Management Consultancy and its representative, Kenneth Makhanya, reported that the sessions were open and everyone submitted freely.
