193 GOALS IN 22 LEAGUE GAMES FOR RAGING BUFFS LADIES TEAM

MBABANE – They are undoubtedly set to lift the trophy next month and are by far the highest scoring team in the Eswatini Women Football League (WFL).

That is army side team, Young Buffaloes Ladies, who are the defending league champions, have recorded precisely 193 goals in 22 games and still counting. These statistics show that they will exceed 200 goals by the end of the 2018/2019 domestic league season.  The Simephi Zulu trigger happy squad have maintained an unbeaten run in the league since its inception last year, having conceded only two goals. They are comfortably dominating at the peak of the log with 66 points and have eight more fixtures before the league season comes to bed. Last weekend, they scored 17 goals against Illovo, who managed to be on target once. They self-driven team has an average of eight goals per game. 

The league’s top goalscorer is Buffaloes prolific striker, Celiwe Nkambule, who currently has 68 goals. Nkambule also plays for the women’s national team, Sitsebe Samhlekazi. At the end of the first round, she had recorded a total of 49 goals. She has set herself really high standards, with a target of 100 goals by the end of the league. With that goal attained, she could be counted amongst the worlds’ top female football players, in the footsteps of retired United States of America’s world’s all-time leading goalscorer, Abby Wambach, who recorded 184 goals in her nine-year  international career. “I am determined to reach my target goals and be listed among the kingdom’s best female players. The ends nearing and I am certain that we will lift the league championship once again,” she said.

The second player with a high number of goals is Manzini Wanderers’ Gcinile Zwane, who has hit the back of the net 33 times. The Bongani Makhukhula squad stands second on the charts, with a record of 61 points, resulting from 20 victories, one draw and one loss. They are trailing by 63 goals behind Buffaloes and in third place is Mbabane Swallows, who are left with five fixtures. They are currently standing at 55 points with a record of 57 goals and are one goal ahead of Royal Leopards who are at position four. The team with the least number of goals is Mbekelweni ladies, who have five goals. They are currently submerged at the basement on the log and have recorded one win in 21 games. Last weekend, they lost 3-0 to Green Mamba and are fixtured to play against Langeni at Technical Centre at 1pm.The league was sponsored to the tune of E255 000, with a prize package of E81 650. The champions will pocket E25 000.
