MANZINI – Just as earlier predicted, the champions of the inaugural ‘Pool for health’ teams knockout tournament are from the Dixie’s International E30 000 Pool League.

Rookies in the league which is on its second edition under the Dixie’s International banner in the Manzini Regional Pool Association (MRPA), Manzini Pool Club came out tops in the two-weekend long tournament started on Ascension Day last month. They were the champions and pocketed E1 500, a playing kit worth E2000, a trophy and 10 gold medals. This was on Sunday at Manzini Pool Club after they defeated Bel-Air 13-9 in the finals. Interestingly, Bel-Air had looked as favourites after stunning a star-studded Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) with a 13-9 defeat in semis.

However, MPC had also been pitted against knockout specialists and Dixie’s Pool League defending champions and strong contenders again this season, Way Inn Pool Club in a game that either team capitalised on any mistake made. “You make one mistake you are gone. That was our game with MPC and congratulations to them for the championship and thank you to all the teams that made this tournament a success. “We learned a lot from our partners AMICAALL who had sponsored us along with Manzini Pool Club,” said Way Inn Director and MRPA Chairman Muntu Dlamini. AMICAALL is an acronym for Alliance of Mayors Initiative for Community Action on HIV/AIDS at the Local Level. MPC won 13-11 against Way Inn after the latter lost concentration and gave away the match through some mistakes of their own.

Wonderful

Meanwhile, the runners-up got E1 000 plus silver medals and the E2 000 worth playing kit while third place finishers Way Inn took home E500, bronze and a full kit as well. AMICAALL’s Dodge Matsebula, a decorated former national team pool player himself, said it was a wonderful tournament astheir target for men was achieved. “We are grateful to partner with pool and believe the impact was felt by all players who accessed health services in the past two weeks.  We also witnessed a high standard of competition during the games and a lot of young people were playing which gives us hope that the country’s future is safe since most of the young people got tested for HIV during the games,” he said. Meanwhile, the prizes went up to the eighth best team in the tournament, meaning all quarter-finalists received prizes.
