MBABANE – Go big or go home. This old adage holds true for Premier League-bound Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows who have convinced one of Africa’s celebrated legends Mohammed Gargo to dine with them later this month.

Gargo, 43, deserves no introduction after plying his trade in big leagues in Europe during his heydays. The Ghana-born legend had stints with Germany’s giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, Stoke City of England as well as Udinese from Italy, among others, between 1993 and 2004. He is also a former Ghana international with 20 caps and boasts bronze at junior level with the Under-23s during the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.

Black Swallows Chairman Charles Matsebula confirmed that Gargo will honour an invitation to come down to Eswatini for their eagerly-awaited celebratory dinner set for June 29 at Maguga Lodge outside Pigg’s Peak, starting at 6pm. He said an unnamed friend from outside the country linked him to Gargo.
“High-profile guests have been invited to grace the function with their presence. The first international to confirm is former Bayern Munich defender Mohammed Gargo,” said Matsebula.

qualifications

Gargo is now a CAF A Licence holder, which is one of the highest qualifications in Africa. He currently coaches Tura Magic FC, which is a Namibian Premier League side based in Windhoek. According to Matsebula, the Accra-born legend is expected to arrive a few days before the event.
Gargo, when sought for comment, confirmed his lined-up trip to Eswatini.

“It has always been my intention to tour the southern African countries and to let them know how good they can be if they pursue a dream of playing in Europe,” he said. The retired defender said it would not be his first time being in the country, as he made a stop for a game against Sihlangu while he was still a player.
