MATSAPHA – A team of elite stars calling themselves KaNyamazane Pool Team in Nelspruit, South Africa, left Eswatini with silverware.

This was after they won the Copier Corporation International Pool Challenge pitting the South Africans against Manzini Regional Pool Association (MRPA) affiliates Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) Pool Club. This was last Saturday afternoon at Matsapha Police Academy’s canteen pool tables.

The match started slightly after 3pm and ran into the evening as it was played in a league format, meaning 25 matches and race to 13. It was not a good start for the visitors who had overturn a home defeat to same rivals back in March. They trailed 3-0 very early in the match but had to pick themselves up and fight to a 13-8 win.

This was a before a packed canteen as REPS had all the fans out for them, a part of the challenge that the visitors praised and said it was the best and motivated them. For their achievement, the visitors were presented with a huge trophy, 10 gold medals and E1000 cash by the sponsor’s representative, Tandzisile Kunene, along with the police management.

REPS had to make do with E500 and 10 silver medals.
“The trip was better than pool. We socialised, enjoyed the atmosphere, the discipline and respect, the food and accommodation was marvellous,” said one of the SA players.

REPS player and coordinator, Constable Khoza, praised his team for the brave fight and said this was a big game for them as they had a lot to learn from their counterparts who beat them this time around. He also thanked REPS authorities and their colleagues for the support they were getting as a police pool side.
