MBABANE – Some celebrated while others were left grieving.

This was during the UEFA Champions League final between two English Premier League sides in Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
This was courtesy of Multichoice Eswatini, which provided big screens. There was one huge screen and over 100 football fans braved the cold winter breeze. They packed the Albert Millin, which is housed inside Mbabane Club.

At least 60 per cent were ‘Reds’ fans while 20 were Manchester, Chelsea and Arsenal loyalists. The other 20 per cent were Tottenham fans.

rivals

Interviewed randomly, the Manchester, Chelsea and Arsenal fans made it clear that they were backing Tottenham Spurs because, as Liverpool were their rivals.

The fans were joined by Sihlangu coach Kostadin Papic and Multichoice Eswatini’s Dumsile Masuku and Khetsiwe Mhlongo.
The atmosphere was electrifying and the early goal did not dampen the spirit of Tottenham and neutral fans. It was interesting to witness the fans’ reactions when a player missed a chance or when the referee made controversial decisions.

singing

When the referee blew the final whistle, Liverpool fans jumped and started singing a Salah song while others jumped in jubilation.
Meanwhile, the opposition fans were still shocked that the Reds had won the most prestigious tournament in Europe.
Interviewed after the game, Multchoice Eswatini’s Masuku said they were impressed with the attendance and were looking to host more events like this in the near future.

“We are looking at staging more events like this for not only EPL but PSL and other major leagues or tournaments.
“This is an initiative which is aimed at promoting our brands, socialising and networking. We were also happy to witness more ladies coming out to watch the game,” Masuku said.
