HAWANE – He is an experienced leader and instructor. That is Sensei Tertius Esterhuizen, who was leading local judokas to the 256th Judo Camp held this weekend at Hawane Resort.
The camp started on Friday evening and will end this morning but the main activities were carried out yesterday.

The main aim of the camp was to strengthen team-building relations among clubs and the lined up activities included judo games, techniques, hiking, swimming and a camp fire.
Yesterday morning, the participants were found after having just completed hiking and about to engage in other activities forming part of the event’s programme.

According to Sensei Esterhuizen, who is also the Secretary General of the Swaziland Judo Federation (SJF), this weekend’s camp was one of his judo career highlights.

“This is my 256th Judo Camp leading judokas and it makes it a major highlight of my judo career. In all the camps that I have organised in over a 26-year period, we have never encountered a serious injury incident where a participant will need to be rushed to hospital,” he said.

Esterhuizen added that there were just minor incidents of blue-eyes and scratches but nothing too serious. He also disclosed that he had been with judokas to camps that were hosted nationally and internationally.
For clubs which were present during the judo camp, the secretary general counted Montessori, Mbabane Theatre Club, Premier Judo Club, Malkerns Judo Club, Little School Judo Club, Manzini Judo Club and Usutu Forest Judo Club.

“Last night (Friday) the guys settled in and introduced themselves to one another. Today’s (yesterday) activities include swimming,” he said. Esterhuizen expressed their gratitude to the judokas’ parents for allowing their children to be part of the camp and assured them that their children will learn a lot from the experience. He said some would be making friends for life at such a gathering. He said at their next camp, the judokas will have more fun as they will then know each other well.
