The association of legends styled Eswatini Sports Legends Association (ESLA) was officially launched at Riverstone in Manzini on Wednesday.

Also part of the festivities were legends who included Mbabane Swallows’ Dumsani ‘Bhusha’ Mdluli, Mbabane Highlanders’ Malungisa Dludlu, William ‘Toyko’ Mtewa who donned Wanderers colours during his heydays. Others were Robert ‘Maswazi’ Mncina who used to play for Mbabane Swallows, Manzini Wanderers and Green Sea, former Moneni Pirates’ Christopher ‘Tototo’ Khoza and darts pundits Michael ‘Scara’ Gama.

“We also want to create a basket of investment for our future youngsters. The association is aimed at creating a fund to sponsor grassroots initiatives. The association will also address issues of not only football but all sporting codes and artists,” Nxumalo said.
He also added that they were looking to affiliate under Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council in the near future.

Manzini North Member of Parliament Macford Sibandze said he was supportive of the association.
“When legends retire from playing their respective sports, they are forgotten. I appeal to Eswatini Football Association, Premier League of Eswatini and other sports organisations to recognise the legends,” Sibandze said.

He went on to make an example of France footballer and coach Zinedine Zidane who he said was honoured by FIFA in that, he would not pay an entrance fee in any stadium in the world.

Secretary/Executive Head (Legends Projects & Communications), Michael Gama said they had a vision of seeing the association not only helping in developing sport but also recognising all legends in the country.
Almost all the legends that were present during the event were given a chance to comment and they were full of support for the association.
