MBABANE – South African businessman and politician Ally Kgomongwe has already declared he will deliver one major trophy as Mbabane Highlanders boss next season to bring to an end the over-a-decade-long dry spell.

His words were preceded by a five-year contract he signed on Monday afternoon at Southern Sun Hotel in South Africa, Pretoria. This was in the presence of Patrons’ Chairman Isaac Shabangu, who is a former senator. However, two days after his signing, the patrons’ structure is, according to wide speculation, allegedly divided over the decision.

“There was a meeting yesterday (Wednesday) that was attended by patrons including Shabangu and directors’ chairman Zweli Jele. The big and disappointing news from that meeting is that they appeared to question the signing of the contract yet it’s already done,” alleged an insider.

The source claimed that the meeting had a few of the patrons in attendance. “What was the handover by the directors for then, because they did it yesterday morning (Tuesday) only for things to change later in the day?” wondered the source.
The handover was confirmed by Jele, who further explained they were later called into a meeting with the patrons where it was resolved that they hold fort for now.

clarity

“People are already talking about division and we’re aware but I must clarify that there’s none such. Patrons did have a meeting but all they want is for Ally to come here and get any clarity he may want from us and then we hand over,” he explained.
He dismissed talk of some of the patrons expressing dissatisfaction and wanting Kgomongwe to come and clarify a few things.

“It was resolved that he must come here and the good thing is that it’s him who wants clarity on certain things about the club like players’ contracts among other things. It is not like we’re holding onto power but the patrons considered today’s Ingwenyama Cup prize presentation and any events that may require the club’s presence.

They felt we should hold fort until they meet with Ally,” he clarified.

He said all the division claims they were hearing from the street and other corners were untrue. “Truth is agreement has been signed with Ally and after he meets the patrons, we’ll be out of office. We can’t lie and say we can run the club because financially we cannot. It takes a lot of money to run this team,” he said.

Jele appealed to supporters to be patient as they could not just drop everything before Kgomongwe got the answers he needed, so they would continue along with the Management Committee. He added that there was a need to do due diligence otherwise all patrons embraced his takeover.

He further explained that if there were some patrons feeling otherwise about the move, they were speaking in hushed tones. The South African businessman could not immediately respond when sought for comment.
