MATSAPHA – Boys are now being separated from men in the exciting Dixie’s International Pool League.

The league run by Manzini Regional Pool Association (MRPA), and has a package of E30 000 in its second edition, is nearing the end of the first round but already, the competition at the top is so fierce. League debutants Manzini Pool Club (MPC), who had been at the summit from day one of the 12-team tournament, were for the first time dislodged from the top. Star-studded Police Academy are leading the way now after last weekend’s results.

stunned

As they say, one man’s fall is another’s rise and MPC were stunned by Figaredo, who outplayed them to a 13-8 win while Police Academy seized the opportunity when they annihilated their derby counterparts Correctional Services 13-9 on Sunday, adding to their 13-11 win against Mankayane on the previous day at the Police College. Mankayane presented them stiffer competition than Correctional.

The police relied heavily on stars like the decorated Sibusiso Nhlabatsi, Siyabonga and Sifiso Dlamini as well as Majaha Dlamini, who gave their rivals a hard time on the table. One of the country’s best, Flag Nxumalo, led Correctional in this game but it was not to be their day against a solid police side. The two wins saw the police make a huge leap from sixth to the summit on 28 points after 10 games.

On second are defending champions Way Inn, who retained the spot after crushing Bhunya 13-7 at Malkerns Game Room. They now have 27 points in 10 games which is a very thin line between them and the leaders. There was further damage for Correctional on the standings as they dropped from third to fifth on 25 points.
Army side Garrison easily brushed aside Stairs with a bonus win, earning four instead of three points after a 13-05 margin. The win took them from fourth to third on 27 points while MPC were relegated from the top spot to fourth.
It is shaping up to be a race between the giant sides in the second round where the tournament will reach its climax point midway through.
