MBABANE – Cyclists have to wait a little longer before taking to the road for one of Eswatini’s exciting races styled Dups Mafutseni Cycle Classic.

The race, which is headlined by a 120km event, was supposed to take centre stage at Mafutseni outside Manzini this coming Sunday. It has since been deferred due to unforeseen circumstances. Host Club Newcom Wheels Chairman Mbusi Motsa confirmed the latest developments, saying the race would now be staged at the same venue on June 2.

“Since some national team cyclists are leaving for a tour in Polokwane this week, we feel we have to put it on ice. Some of the internationals who will be in the tour also want to feature in the local race,” said Motsa.

Motsa said the race would be launched soon. This year marks the 11th edition. The main race used to be 100km long but it was stretched two years ago. The cyclists race along places that include Madlangempisi, Dvokolwako and Bhalekane.

Meanwhile, Team Eswatini was expected to leave by yesterday for the tour in Limpopo. This is an International Cycling Union (UCI)-sanctioned event. It will be staged between tomorrow and Saturday.  Members of Team Eswatini include Gcina Banda, Lungelo Mlangeni, Sihle Dlamini of Dig Deep as well as Similo Nyoni and Muzi Shabangu from MTN Khemani. Zweli Zulu of Newcom Wheels has also made the cut.
The selected cyclists will endure a course of more than 400km over the four days.
