TEARS, SORROW AS FATY LAID TO REST

MBABANE – Desolation, crying and consternation was the order of the day at the International Airport of Bujumbura, Burundi, this past Thursday at the arrival of the body of Malanti Chiefs star Papy Faty.


The Burundian international collapsed at Killarney Stadium on April 25 and few hours later was certified dead at the nearby Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital. Officials, his family, friends, acquaintances and teammates were at the airport to welcome his body two days ago. Before the arrival of the coffin, everyone seemed calm. But when the body left the offices of the civil aviation authority, women, most of them dressed in the Muslim, could not help themselves. This is according to a report carried by Burundian French Newspaper ActuDaily.


With tears in her eyes, her mother, wife and daughter could not stand up. Dressed in black, a woman collapsed in front of the body.
A video of the arrival of the body was also circulated on online media platforms.

“He fell on the battlefield. I just lost a friend, a teammate and a reference. I will never forget his bravery and determination. He was a tireless player, “said Aimé Nzohabonayo, a former Inter Star player and former captain of the national team.
And for his part, Olivier Niyungeko aka Mutombola, coach of the national team lamented the loss of a brave player.

The body of this player was later transported to Kira Hospital. His funeral took take place yesterday morning, at the cemetery of Mpanda.
According to information from Malanti Chiefs PRO Lungile Dube, over 5 000 attended the funeral was started at 10am.


“Everything went well, although it was tough seeing him go down for the last time. We will always remember him for his professionalism. May his soul rest in peace,” Dube said.


The body was transported to South Africa in the past week and it was flown to the final destination from the OR Tambo International Airport.
