NO SALARIES FOR ‘BULL’S PLAYERS

MBABANE – Two months after losing an E80 000 monthly cash boost sponsorship from Eswatini Mobile, Mbabane Highlanders are seemingly struggling to pay last month’s salaries.

They used the Eswatini Mobile funding to pay their players’ salaries, a deal that had to go for three seasons but Highlanders, along with Manzini Wanderers and Mbabane Swallows, also lost the sponsorship into the second season on grounds that they were not meeting their part of the bargain.

It has emerged once again that just like last month, where they needed to host a game, they made E77 000 in gate collections and used it to cover for the March salaries as reported in our sister newspaper, the Swazi News. Impeccable sources, including the players, have said they still have not received last month’s salaries.

“And nothing is being communicated to us but we had expected to be paid at least last Friday or this past Monday at the latest but it’s now all so quiet. We’re hopeful they will come up with something sooner rather than later otherwise we’re continuing with training for the two remaining league games which we want to win,” said one of the club’s players.

This is all in the midst of internal issues surrounding the mystery departure of talented South African midfielder Vusumuzi Zungu back to South Africa, missing the team’s last two games against Royal Leopard and Manzini Sundowns, respectively.

It has surfaced that the club’s directors have again allegedly pinned their hopes on the PLE to advance them with an extra E100 000 and this, our sources have claimed, was precisely for the salaries. One of the club officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, admitted that there were challenges since the Eswatini Mobile deal collapsed.
