INTERNATIONALS FOR AAE CHAMPS

MBABANE – The country’s best in athletics will be up against top athletes from South Africa, Lesotho and Mozambique on May 18 and 19 during the AAE Senior National Championships billed for the Mavuso Sports Centre.


Some of the senior athletes set to steal the show on the day include South-African based athletes Nonhlanhla ‘Erikah’ Seyama and Phumlile Ndzinisa in the ladies category while in the men’s section they include record holders Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa, Andile Lusenga, Sebenele Dlamini, Mcebo Mkhaliphi and Mlandvo Shongwe.


Athletics Association of Eswatini (AAE) President Zakhele Dlamini announced yesterday that all was set for the championships and they are looking forward to a competitive event. He said the event would be spiced up by the presence of the international athletes.


Dlamini said all athletes to compete in the championships have to be those who are registered with a club as they will be competing under the standards of IAAF.


Events


Some of the track events athletes will compete in include the 100m, 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles, 800m, 1 500m, 3 000m, 5 000m and the 10 000m while the field events include high jump, long jump, javelin, triple jump, shot put and discus.


“Our athletes are geared up to give good performances on the day and we are happy that already, Phumlile Ndzinisa is in the country to compete in the championships. The guest athletes will improve the competition,” he said.


Dlamini then invited the nation to come and support the athletes. He said entry would be free and he urged companies to come and pitch as to market themselves and he said they can do this by contacting with the association Secretary Thoba Mazibuko.
He said deadline for entries if May 15.
