MBABANE – Swazi international player Felix Badenhorst couldn’t inspire Mbombela United to victory as their dream of reaching the ABSA Premiership was blown to smithereens over the past weekend. This was during their National First Division League game against Real Kings, which they lost 1-3 at home, Kanyamazane Stadium outside Nelspruit. Badenhorst, who is the captain of the Mpumalanga-based outfit, was withdrawn in the 62nd minute of the game while goalkeeper Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza did not make it to the day’s squad.

Mbombela United are now fifth in the league, outside the play-offs spot with only four games remaining before the end of the season. They have 44 points while leaders Royal Eagles are top of the table with 50 points. The Sihlangu players joined the South African side before the start of the season and Badenhorst went on to score four goals for the team while Ginindza failed to take the number one spot between the poles. Mbombela United are led by Eswatini-born coach Milton Dlamini. The two national team, Sihlangu players are expected to be part of the team that will represent the country in the coming COSAFA Cup billed for May 25 to June 8 in Durban, South Africa. They were also part of the team that played Tunisia in the AFCON Qualifiers under new coach Kostadin Papic.
