BEST 11 FOR ASA GRAND PRIX

MBABANE – The country’s senior athletes will battle it out with top South Africa’s athletes during the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Grand Prix.


The competitions are billed for Bloemfontein, Saturday and Potchefstroom on April 17. The local athletes to be headed by sprinter, Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa will be competing in the competitions after an invitation from ASA.


The squad will compete in events including the 4x100 men, 4x400m and 4x10m women and individual events. The men 4x100m teams comprises of Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’Matsenjwa, Mlandvo Shongwe, Sebenele Dlamini, Mcebo Mkhaliphi and Thandaza Zwane while the women consists of Phumlile Ndzinisa, Erikah Seyama, Siphesihle Dlamini and Bongiwe Mahlalela.


Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAE) Secretary Thoba Mazibuko announced the teams yesterday. He said the team was confirmed after a mini competition held at Mavuso Sports Centre on Monday.


“The association received an invitation for the ASA Grand Prix relays to be held in Bloemfontein and Potchefstroom. The association then had a mini competition on Monday where the athletes competed in 100m for the selection of the 4x100m team and 300m to select the 4x400m,” he said.


The ladies 4x100m team was selected based on results from previous competitions as the duo of Erikah Seyama and Phumlile Ndzinisa are based in South Africa.
The team will be led by Muzi Mabuza who is the coach while Harry Malindzisa is the manager.
