MBABANE – Despite not captaining Mbabane Highlanders in their game against their rivals Mbabane Swallows, Xolani ‘Chocco’ Sibandze remains the side’s skipper.

Many were left with more questions than answers when the ‘The Bull’ were led by goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala during the goalless draw against Mbabane Swallows in the derby on Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium.
Sibandze, who is the longest-serving player at Highlanders and has captained the team for over five years, was substituted in the second half of the game.

Highlanders Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bongani Khumalo said they were empowering some of their players.
He said nothing had changed yet and Sibandze remained the captain and a is assisted by Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule.

“It was a strategy of empowering other players and to give them the experience of leadership in a big match. Nothing has changed and Shabalala was a ground captain on the day,” he said.
Highlanders are expected to be in a four-week break as they are no longer part of the EswatiniBank Cup that will be played in the next three weeks with one-week given to the national team that will be playing Malawi in the TOTAL CHAN Qualifiers on April 20 at Mavuso Sports Centre.
