BIG BEND – Sisekelo High School Head teacher Glory Mabaso said they were happy about the growing interest shown by companies in the second edition of the Sisekelo MTB Cycle Challenge.

Mabaso made these remarks after the race which started and finished at the school premises on Saturday. The race saw over 80 cyclists partaking in the second edition. The overall winner was MTN Khemani’s Muzi Shabangu with Lesley Foss shinning in the ladies category. “We are happy about the interest shown by companies in this race. We want to thank Swazi Med, Mr Matata and other companies which ensured the event was a success. I also want to thank parents and all cyclists who also played a part in the success of the race,” Mabaso said. She also revealed that the main objective of the race was to raise funds for building a sports emporium. “The support is overwhelming and we are at a loss of words. We are positive that the proceeds from this race will be channelled towards construction of the sports emporium,” she said.

Reason

Meanwhile, Swazi Med CEO Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane pointed out that the reason they partnered with the school was because it was in line with their wellness programme. “We felt investing in sports will help ease the burden on our part. We believe prevention is better than cure. This is also a way of giving back to the community as we have clients here in the Lubombo Region,” Simelane said. He is also Eswatini Football Association (EFA) vice president.
