MBABANE – Athletics Association of Eswatini (AAE) presidential hopeful Zakhele Dlamini has big plans in store for the association.

Dlamini will be contesting for the presidential post with Selby Shongwe on Sunday in the elections to be held at Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) building, starting at 9am. Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Simanga Nhleko will be the Electoral Officer (EO) during the elections.

In a candid interview, the shrewd, experienced sports administrator, who has been involved in various sporting codes for over 20 years, is confident that if he is elected to the presidential position, he will work towards rebranding, restructuring and repositioning the association.

He said it was an undisputed fact that there were factions within the association hence the need to break the factions and foster unity.
“I promise that together with my executive, if elected, I will work in repealing the current AAE constitution and introduce policies to guide us in whatever we do, thus promoting transparency. For example, we will need finance policy and procedures to be in place and other policies to effectively execute our duties as per the mandate of the membership,” he said.

Dlamini, who introduced professionalism in the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) as CEO, with the implementation of Club Licensing and other initiatives which brought positive change in football administration, stated that he wanted to reposition, rebrand and restructure the association in such a way that it is able to attract sponsors.
“Me and my executive will ensure there is a proper relationship with other sporting associations, including the schools sports association which is undoubtedly playing a significant role in identifying talent. In essence, the affiliated clubs will be able to acquire sponsors and foster a working relationship with the authorities from which the clubs are based,” he said.

Dlamini has managed, through his own company, TZD, to foster a working relationship with other corporate organisations and even hosted the Corporate Sports Day with the then Federation of Swaziland Employers (FSL) three years ago.
In partnership with Siteki Town Council, he will be hosting the half marathon tomorrow in Siteki.  Dlamini was the president of the interim committee three months ago after a vote of no confidence was passed on the Gideon Mthembu-led executive committee.
