MBABANE – The duo of Zakhele Dlamini and Selby Shongwe is vying for the Eswatini Athletics Association (EAA) presidential post.
The two were nominated by the members ahead of the elections set for next Sunday in Manzini.

Both candidates deserve no introductions. Shongwe is a well known technical official who was vice president in the old Board that was led by Gideon Mthembu.
Dlamini, on the other hand, is a lawyer and director at TZD Athletics Club. He once served as Premier League of Swaziland (now Eswatini) CEO.
In the race for the vice presidency position are Harry Malindzisa, Roy Dlamini and Muzi Mabuza.

There was turmoil in the association since a dramatic general assembly last year. The international athletics body had to intervene about two weeks ago and an ad hoc committee was appointed.

Members of the ad hoc committee include the Chairperson, Eward Ndlangamandla, the Vice-Chairperson, Elphas Ngcamphalala and Adel Britz, an additional member.
The committee was tasked with facilitating elections, among other duties.

The outgoing President Gideon Mthembu declined to stand for the elections.
The ad hoc Chairperson, Ndlangamandla confirmed yesterday that all was set for the elections and they were hoping they would be a success.
