MBABANE – Heavyweights Mbabane Highlanders have reportedly sneaked out of the country, as they intensify their preparations for Sunday’s crunch Ingwenyama Cup final against Young Buffaloes.

The team reportedly left the country for an unnamed destination yesterday and will be away for five days, at least according to impeccable sources. This means they will return on Friday, in time for the crackerjack showdown set for Somhlolo National Stadium. Reports suggested they were either destined to one of the neighbouring countries, while officials preferred to keep the destination secret.

“Only the top 18 players are part of the trip and they will undergo intensive training away from home. The team left in groups,” alleged the impeccable source. Some players, on condition of anonymity, also confirmed the trip.

Highlanders PRO Paul ‘Magidz’eludzakeni’ Masilela’s phone rang unanswered when sought for comment. CEO Thulani Khumalo said he was held up for the better part of the day and missed most of the team’s activities. He referred comments to team Chairman Zweli Jele, who could not be drawn for comments on the matter.

It could not be immediately ascertained why Highlanders opted to prepare outside the country. Meanwhile, it will be Highlanders’ first major final since 2012 when they lost 1-3 to Green Mamba in the EswatiniBank Cup.

Impeccable sources, as reported in yesterday’s publication, have alleged that the spirit in camp was high following lucrative incentives being dangled to the players. However, management have since come out to dismiss the claims.
