LOBAMBA - The fall of Young Buffaloes last night was the rise of Mbabane Highlanders.

In an excitingly unpredictable MTN Premier League title race, Buffaloes dropped two points after a goal-less draw with Manzini Sundowns in an earlier match. This cost the army side the third spot after Highlanders got the better of Mbabane Citizens in the later match last night. Highlanders turned the tables to claim all three points this time around, after a goalless draw in the first round.

Dumped

The win took the black and white Inkunz’emnyama to third from fifth on 39 points, and in the process, bitter capital city rivals Mbabane Swallows were dumped out of the top four after they also played a 1-all draw with second-placed Green Mamba on Tuesday night.

Highlanders, who recovered from the shock 1-0 defeat to Matsatpha United last Sunday in the EswatiniBank Cup last 16, are now one point behind second-placed Green Mamba and six behind leaders Royal Leopard, who beat Manzini Wanderers 2-0 last night.

Handing Highlanders the win was the duo of Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze and South African striker Mthobisi Mngomezulu, who started this match after being used as a late substitute last Sunday.

Their goals brought smiles to their packed grandstand, one would swear this was already the big derby against Swallows which had been scheduled for this Sunday but league games were called off to give way to the national team, Sihlangu’s preparations for their away clash with Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cup 2019 last match of the group J qualifiers in which Egypt and the Tunisians long qualified.

Meanwhile, Sawa was on target in the 36th minute, dribbling his way into edge of the six-yard box from the right wing before unleashing a powerful shot into the far corner of the net.

Four minutes later, it was 2-0 as the troublesome Mngomezulu headed into an empty net, a Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule corner from the left wing.
He pulled out  Captain Xolani ‘Chocco’ Sibandze, Mngomezulu and Thabiso Mokenkoane.

However, Citizens nearly gave them a rude welcome but striker Richard Botwey saw his free header go just wide of the goal with goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala beaten.
