MBABANE – Malanti Chiefs U20s will feel the wrath of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE).

This past Saturday, the team was found guilty by the PLE of serious misconduct as they fielded players who are way above the age of 20 and were not legitimate Malanti Chief U20 team players.
Malanti was playing against Manzini Sundowns in EswatiniBank Cup U20s quarter-finals and they won 4-3 in sudden death penalties.

However, an official correspondence was sent by the PLE to both teams informing them of the decision the association had taken to forfeit the game to Sundowns and have Malanti out of the tournament despite the win for their wrongdoing.
PLE is the body that coordinate the EswatiniBank Cup U20s tournament.

PLE Development Officer Dumisani Sibandze said the punishment was meant to set a precedent because such malpractice brought local football to disrepute in countless ways.

He said the team had an unfair advantage by fielding older players who were more experienced than the minors apart from the fact that they could seriously injure these youngsters.
Malanti brought an incomplete team of just nine players with no substitute on the bench with some of the players producing cards that belonged to other players.

cancelled

According to the development officer, the game should have been cancelled but they did not want to bring the sponsor’s name into disgrace and therefore decided to let it proceed despite the fact that a decision had already made that Malanti will forfeit the game to Sundowns regardless of any outcome.

He said it would have been pointless to cancel the game when a number of football lovers were already at the stadium and paid to watch the game.

Yesterday, Sibandze confirmed that the team will further be slapped with the E25 000 fine stipulated by the rules and regulations of the tournament.
“Yes, a correspondence will be made to the team to impose the fine for this wrongdoing,” he said.
