MBABANE – Swaziland Dance Sport Association (SWADANSA) is now a thing of the past.

In reaction to the country’s name change, which was announced by His Majesty King Mswati III on April 19 last year, the association has officially changed its name to Eswatini Dance Sport Association (EDANSA) with a new logo. The decision to adopt the new name was taken during a special general assembly in the past month.

Newly-appointed PRO Jo Leung, who shot to fame in wheelchair basketball, confirmed the latest developments, saying it was back to business for dancers.
“EDANSA will host the first national dance competition of 2019 on April 6 at Esibayeni Lodge. “Dancers from tiny tots to professional level will compete on the day. Registration starts at 10am and the competition will commence at 11am,” she said.

Tickets for spectators, according to Jo, are retailing at E40 each.

“Dancers from all over the country will participate in the prestigious event. They will fight for the winning titles on different Latin American and Standard Ballroom dances such as the cheeky Cha Cha, the festive Samba, the graceful Waltz and the passionate Tango, to name a few,” she said.

EDANSA is the national governing body dedicated to bringing dance sport to the next level. “Follow EDANSA on Facebook (@EswatiniDanceSport) and Instagram (@_edansa) to keep up to date on the dance sport movement in Eswatini,” she stressed.
Dance sport is a well recognised international sport and fast growing phenomenon in the southern Africa region.
