MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders could lose their prized asset in grafter Vusumuzi Zungu to South Africa’s National First Division side Mbombela United.

According to impeccable sources, the South Africa’s Mpumalanga-based side are making a bid for the gifted midfielder, who was signed from the ‘old’ Matsapha United at the beginning of the campaign. “Some Mbombela United officials were in the country in the past weekend to watch the player in action in the Ingwenyama Cup Last 16 against Vovovo at Mhlume.
“The team does not want to invite him for assessment, but want to sign him straight away,” alleged an impeccable source.

Comments

The player’s agents are said to be the old Matsapha United directors. Efforts to get a comment from Sifiso Shongwe were fruitless at the time of compiling this report late yesterday. Mbombela United Director Oupa Matsebula was not available for comment and he had not responded to a text message sent to his phone by late yesterday. Highlanders PRO Paul Masilela’s phone repeatedly rang unanswered when sought for comment. Team Chairman Zweli Jele said he once learnt about an interest in the player by the same team, but there was no formal bid made at this stage.

Contract

The South Africa-born midfielder reportedly signed a two-year contract with Highlanders. The player has brought stability in the team since coming on board. He had joined Matsapha from Highlanders. He re-united with Highlanders after just one season at the team fondly known as ‘Deep Blue Ocean’. He was once named the best player from the National First Division. If the move can be completed, he will join Eswatini exports Felix Badenhorst and Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza at Mbombela. The duo was signed at the beginning of the season.  Eswatini-born coach Milton Dlamini is in charge of Mbombela United, who are challenging for promotion to South Africa’s money-spinning Absa Premiership. They are currently second on the charts.
