LOBAMBA – They are surely the most successful team from the National First Division in the fourth edition of the Ingwenyama Cup.

Tinyosi FC yesterday stunned elite league rookies, Mbabane Citizens in the Last 16 of the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF)-sponsored knockout tournament after they sent them packing on a 5-3 score after a penalty shootout.
The win saw the second tier side proceed to the quarter-finals of the tournament and will receive a lump sum of E110 000 for their efforts.

As per the rules and regulations of the Ingwenyama Cup 2018/2019 edition, any team that reaches the quarter-finals of the tournament is guaranteed E75 000.
Tinyosi are the only first division side left in the tournament and the rules stipulate that the best finisher of the First Division will get E30 000.

The team will also receive E5 000 for First Division teams participation in this tournament.

guaranteed

When all these monies are added, Tinyosi are guaranteed to walk away with at least with E110 000 even if they lose in the quarter-finals.
This was not one of the best Ingwenyama Cup editions for the losers as they managed to reach the semi-finals in the previous one.

Former Royal Leopard defender, Sizwe Khumalo, was the first to miss the third penalty for Citizens whereas Tinyosi had scored all three.
Substitute, Ayanda Mngomezulu, was unfortunate to hit the goal post for Citizens’ fourth penalty.

Bongani Makama made sure he was on target for the First Division side on the fourth penalty which saw Tinyosi march to the quarter-finals.
The game started on a low note here yesterday as both teams brought a cautious approach in the first half with Tinyosi relying more on counter-attacks.

experience

Lack of experience on the side was evident for Citizens who recently lost the services of speedy South Africa-born winger, Graig Abrahams, as he left for Portugal in Europe to try his luck.
The clear-cut chance for the capital side came towards the quarter-hour mark but Bongani Matsenjwa failed to find the target inside the box from a brilliant flick delivered by Ponda Mwamba.
Khumalo had looped in a good ball from a set piece outside the edge of the box.

Citizens’ goalie, Sandile Dlamini, did a good job to save a few dangerous shots by Tinyosi and the team was dealt a huge blow after Mwamba sustained an arm injury and had to make way for Samkeliso Dlamini.
The game had gained a bit of momentum after the breather and both teams started showing their intensions.

It was Citizens who broke the deadlock three minutes after the hour-mark through the boot of Mancoba Vilakati, who banged home with a powerful ground shot to beat Tinyosi goalkeeper, Muzikayise Mtsetfwa. This is after he connected a nicely placed delivery by Samkeliso on the left flack.

Citizens were a bit relaxed towards the end of the game and Tinyosi took advantage as they scored the equaliser in referee John Mensah’s additional time.
It was a stunner following a header by Simphiwe Makama on the far top left from a corner spot ball.
The win after penalties means that Tinyosi progress to the next stage of the tournament.
