MBABANE – Former Manzini Wanderers midfielder Timothy Mathonsi was a hero between the poles as he made two saves to presents the E6 500 cheque to his social team, Garrison.

This was during the Kwaluseni MP Mabhanisi E20 000 Festive Tournament played at the TB Centre, Matsapha.
The former Young Buffaloes player saved two penalties during the penalty shoot-out to steer his side to victory. They beat Mhlaleni 8-7 after penalties. The finals were played on New Year’s Day with the tournament having started before Christmas.

The tournament coordinator Nico Hlophe confirmed the results yesterday. He said some of the teams did feature Premier Legaue players and at the end of the day everyone was a winner as the community, especially around Matsapha, was entertained. Mhlaleni pocketed E4 500 for being the runners-up while Mafiri, who finished third, got E3 500 with fourth finishers, Small Boys getting E2 500.

“The games went well since they started and everyone was involved as we also have social teams playing and it was great watching former stars in action. We are hopeful that such a kind gesture from our member of Parliament (MP) will continue,” he said.

Hlophe then congratulated the winners and all the 128 teams that took part in the tournament.
The games drew a large crowd as over 200 people cascaded to the Garrison Barracks to enjoy the live football brought by players mostly under the Kwaluseni Inkhundla.
