MBABANE – Local elite league club PROs have agreed in unison that they need to be empowered on their duties.

The club representatives were speaking during an annual PRO Get-together at Polar Park near Tee and Jay in Ezulwini yesterday. Green Mamba CEO Thami Phakathi raised the point of PROs to have clearly defined roles. “Sometimes you would a find a PRO clashing with a referee or other officials. It is not good at all, we need the intervention of PLE to school us on our roles,” Phakathi said. He was supported by Mbabane Highlanders PRO Paul ‘Magidzeludzakeni’ Masilela.

“We need a workshop from PLE or EFA to empower us on our roles. We believe we are on the right track but regular seminars would do us good,” Masilela said. Manzini Sundowns long-serving  PRO Muzi Matsenjwa also admitted that other PROs have clearly lost it in as far as their job description is concerned. Some PROs are doing other stuff which is not on their job description. Clearly, we need to stick to our duties of promoting and marketing the game,” Matsenjwa said. Matsenjwa also pointed that as PROs they should have an Management Committee.

“It would be best that we have an MC as PROs so that we can be able to liaise with all stakeholders which includes the media, sponsors, PLE and EFA,” he said. The PROs raised these points after Royal Leopard PRO Frank Hurube had given the platform to voice their opinions on how they can best improve  their job. Hurube also gave Times of  Swaziland Sports Editor Lwazi Dlamini, who was a guest during the meeting, an opportunity to advise them on fine-tuning their responsibilities. Dlamini pointed out that PROs should stick to their primary duties of promoting the games.

“We will always give PROs the platform to market and promote the games. We are also appealing for PROs to also liaise with supporters, revive the team branches which will in turn have positive spin-offs on bringing more supporters into the stadium,” the Times sports editor said. He also said that they should invite a guest from South Africa to empower them. “These meetings should not be an annual gathering meant only to share a meal; it must be done on a regular basis.
