MBABANE – OK Foods did not only sponsor the Mpolonjeni Festive Tournament but also offered two outstanding players jobs in their company.

Desmond Mlandvo and Sipho Zwane were overwhelmed with excitement when the tournament’s sponsor, OK Foods, offered them employment after being recognised as the most outstanding and disciplined players. Mlandvo, who plays for Golden Boys, is a former Creative Multimedia student who did his diploma at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology last year and was still to go for internship in February, while Zwane, who is Amagluglug player, is a Form One dropout, who was reportedly earning a living as a herd boy and sometimes works for a local block yard.

OK Foods Operations Manager, Noah Bhembe, said he felt the need to offer the young players employment because apart from nurturing young talent, it was their duty as a company to give back to the community and contribute in changing people’s lives. “The two players will not only be employed by OK Foods but will also receive 10kg bags of maize meal and six packs of Rhodes jam from our co-sponsor. This is our way of giving back to the community and to add value to the lives of these young men,” said Bhembe. The two players expressed joy for the opportunity that they were given by the sponsor, and appreciated the company for going the extra mile of hiring them.

“I am very grateful to the sponsor for the job opportunity on top of sponsoring the tournament. They have really changed our lives and for that we are truly honoured,” said Mlandvo.
Eswatini Football Association President, Comfort Shongwe also shared his joy and further urged the nation to support these companies. “That is football for you! Now to keep this going, we need to take good care of the sponsors and it is simply discipline and support of their products that will help create a stable relationship. These are Eswatini-based companies and we must support them,” said Shongwe.

He further thanked the tournament’s organiser, Jabulani Sibandze for the successful event which also opened doors for the development of young lives in the Mpolonjeni community. The sponsor’s representative added that they were planning to extend their sponsorship to other constituencies in future, and support players in other regions of the country.
