‘WESLIANS’ TOP IN GATE COLLECTIONS

MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers have enjoyed a lion’s share of the gate takings in the MTN Premier League first round.


According to figures released by the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), in a press briefing at Sigwaca House in Mbabane yesterday, the maroon and white outfit got E176 309.80 from the five games they have hosted in the first round. The curtain fell on the first round after 13 matches, recently.


Wanderers’ biggest share was during the grand opening, where they co-hosted with Mbabane Swallows and got E93 215 each. The latter are second on the charts with E163 581.

 


Mbabane Highlanders complete the list of the top three with a share of E155 271.25.
Interestingly, teams like Vovovo and Sea Birds are among the top six earners with total income from the gates amounting to E73 332.05 and E58 778.25, respectively.
The 14 teams collectively contributed E1 675 720 from 43 150 tickets sold.

PLE introduced a ticketing system at the beginning of the campaign.
In his address, PLE CEO Simanga Nhleko, who was flanked by COO Pat Vilakati and Accountant Nhlanhla Dlamini, said there were challenges in embracing the ticketing system at first, but things were now falling into place.


“We can now monitor attendance figures at stadia, but we can only start making comparisons at the end of the season,” said Nhleko.
Meanwhile, the first round report further revealed that PLE got E335 144 from the share of the gate takings while government benefitted E103 714 from the use of Somhlolo National Stadium.
