MBABANE – Local football is headed for the worst even its administrators have attested.

This is if Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chairman Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula’s loud cry to Ingwenyama Cup chairman Prince Hlangabeza to help them rescue the game is anything to go by. Magagula yesterday appealed to the prince to accept his football involvement now through the Ingwenyama Cup to help them resuscitate the game of millions.

“You are now part and parcel of football and when we come knocking at your door, we plead that you open and help us. Things are dark as it is and we’ve all seen the results internationally are bad. It was refreshing to read in the newspapers that our under-17 squad is doing well in the Region V games, which shows there is still hope,” Magagula said.

Message

He passed the same message to new Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga who he said has been in the game for a while having also played and coached the national team Sihlangu.

“We need to all work together with the minister to try and improve our football as currently the results are not good. We have all seen the latest international results and they do not augur well for us as a country,” he said.

Magagula was obviously referring to the poor Sihlangu and CAF inter-club competitions results where both Mbabane Swallows and Young Buffaloes were knocked out in the preliminaries of the Champions League and Confederation Cup, respectively. Sihlangu crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cup 2019 Qualifiers. In response, Prince Hlangabeza said this was currently not the time to address issues as the country was holding the annual national prayer but there will be a day he speaks about these matters.
