MANZINI – Mbabane Highlanders are back to winning ways at the expense of fellow hapless giants Manzini Wanderers.

As rain bucketed down Mavuso Sports Centre in the feisty MTN Premier League clash watched by over 2 000 fervent spectators yesterday, Wanderers sank deeper into the drop zone while their second-placed rivals shot to 25 points to mount pressure on Green Mamba.

The latter’s lead has been reduced to five points. It was Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze who condemned the ‘Weslians’ to their seventh defeat from 12 yards out just before the hour mark. He further ensured the ‘Black Bull’ responded positively to last week’s 1-2 setback at Moneni Pirates.
Wanderers remain a place above the drop zone and are only breathing following a 2-all draw between Mbabane Citizens and Malanti Chiefs. The former are only two points behind Wanderers.

While some of Wanderers’ loyalists walked out a few minutes before full time, the rest had more reasons to remain behind as their favourite outfit were daring for a change and deserved better after a brave first half performance.
They even came closest to restoring parity through substitute Mcebo Mdluli, who could not wrap his foot around the ball when he came face-to-face with goalkeeper Khanyakezwe Shabalala towards the end.

It was a game of two halves, as Wanderers had dominated the early exchanges, pressing Highlanders, who took some time to find their rhythm.
However, the slippery pitch spoilt what could have been a crackerjack showdown.
The teams were level-pegging during the interval.
