LUPHOHLO – It was a day when swimmers’ endurance was put to the test, as they had to swim over 500 metres in open water.

This was during the Sharks Swimming Club and Gomes Construction Open Water Swim challenge held last Sunday at Luphohlo Dam, where 42 athletes registered.

This was a record breaking attendance since the event was launched some years ago and Gomes Construction’ Carlos Gomes confirmed this. Swimmers had to swim different distances every after 45 minutes. The shortest distance was the 500 metres, followed by the 1 000 and the 1 600.The event was attended by young and old swimmers, both male and female.

Gomes said they were happy to be sponsoring the event, and this was in support of the swimming club, Sharks.
He said the event was open to all people who knew how to swim and it was likely that they would host it again next year.
