MBABANE – Should the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee (DC) find Royal Leopard guilty, the team might not only forfeit the league game to Matsapha United but be fined not less than E50 000.

This is after the police side’s supporter invaded the pitch during their MTN League encounter against Matsapha United at Mayaluka Stadium in Big Bend on Wednesday night.

The fan sprinted into the field of play just when referee Thulani Sibandze was about to blow his whistle for the resumption of the second stanza.
He grabbed a towel of Matsapha’s goalkeeper, Innocent Obodai Adja, which he had just placed next to the goalpost after he came onto the field of play with it around his shoulders.

The goalie chased after the fan who ran to the darker parts of the stadium in an attempt to grab the towel.
The Lowveld-based team supporters were infuriated by the actions of the Leopard supporter and attacked him but the police and security guards’ swift response helped rescue the Leopard fan, who was then escorted to a police vehicle.

After the chaos, other supporters invaded the pitch and referee Sibandze gave Adja a red card for being involved in a fight while a game was in progress.

As the situation was getting a bit out of control, the referee called the game off before the second half could even start and he and his assistants were escorted by the police.
