MBABANE - They are returning with silverware - two hard-earned trophies. That is the country’s  four-member Oyama Kyokushinkaikan Karate team that was competing in China over the weekend in the World Cup.

The athletes were Black-belt holders Sensei Linda Dlamini, Mpendulo Mahlobo, Sindi Maphalala and Brown belt holder, Cebisile Mthembu.
While news of Dlamini and Mahlobo’s performance had not yet been received at the time of the report, Eswatini’s flag was hoisted as Maphalala and Mthembu fought their way to the top four.

Before they left for China last Wednesday, the team promised a podium finish and that they achieved. Maphalala was third while Mthembu was fourth in the tough Open weight division.

Presented

The duo were presented with giant-sized trophies as they paraded Eswatini’s flag after the glittering results.
No immediate comment could be sourced from the Eswatini Oyama Association President Shihan Mfanafuthi Vilakati who travelled with the team.
The association’s PRO, Sensei Bongani Ndzabandzaba, could also not be reached when sought for comment.

Meanwhile, the trip was made possible by the Swaziland National Sport and Recreation Council  (SNSRC), City Office Machines while STANLIB Eswatini ensured that they looked representative once again with tracksuits.

Also, Oyama is one of the best performing sports in the country internationally as they have often got podium positions including titles. However, this is the best achievement in terms of the World Cup.
