MBABANE – With head coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati suspended for their first four matches of their CAF Champions League campaign, reports suggest Mbabane Swallows are casting their net wide.

According to impeccable sources, the ‘Beautiful Birds’ have allegedly approached former Manzini Wanderers striker and celebrated Malawi-born gaffer Kinnah Phiri to help them prepare for their preliminary round fixture against Tanzania’s giants Simba Sports Club. The first leg is set for next Wednesday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
“Mbabane Swallows have asked Kinnah Phiri to help them prepare against Simba of Tanzania in the CAF Champions League.

“The coach has even promised them a striker,” alleged the impeccable source.
However, both Swallows General Manager Sandile Zwane and PRO Jackson Dlamini said they were yet to learn about the latest developments.
“If there is something to report about on the issue, the office of the PRO will issue a statement,” Zwane said briefly.

Swallows have recently roped in former Manzini Sundowns and current Sihlangu goalkeeper coach Musa Manyatsi, who is likely to keep the fire burning in the early stages of CAF qualifying campaign.

Coach Vilakati was suspended by the Confederation of African Football over two months ago for allegedly manhandling a ball boy during their last game of the recently-ended season of Africa’s premier club competition. He was reported to have committed the offence during the away 1-2 loss to Angola’s Club Desportivo. On top of the four-match ban, the reputable mentor was slapped with a E70 000 fine.

Meanwhile, Phiri, who is 64, once coached the Malawian national team. He was once attached to South Africa’s Premiership side Free State Stars. He is one of the celebrated coaches in the region after also coaching teams in Botswana.
As a player, he starred at Manzini Wanderers between 1982 and 1984.

Several attempts to get the coach’s comment were fruitless, as his phone was apparently switched off. The last attempt was made at 6:50pm,
