’LANDERS STARS SHARE E22 000 AFTER GREAT WIN

MBABANE – Rain or sunshine, Mbabane Highlanders’ players had to walk off the Mavuso Sports Centre as victors over then unbeaten Green Mamba.

They cut short the Correctional Services’ eight-match unbeaten run in the league and further jumped to second for the first time this season after nine games. This was on Wednesday night before more or less enthusiastic fans.

The secret to their title-winning display on the night has been revealed, they met fire with fire. Green Mamba had been venomous since match day one but the Highlanders players came well fired up to evade it all and win the match. They were offered E22 000 as an incentive for a win.

“The directors had put forth a good incentive for them to win the match as we all know Green Mamba had not lost a single match and were on cruise control so it needed that extra boost to try and get the maximum points. It worked,” said an impeccable source in the team.

The source said inside the dressing room celebrations continued with the players engaging in song and dance, handshakes and hugs in acknowledgement of their display and positive result. The club’s Board of Directors Chairman Zweli Jele confirmed the news. He said not all games were easy to win and it was important for them to start performing to their full potential.

“The incentive was E22 000 plus E4 000 for the coaches and staff. Each player will get E1 000 and I’m paying out this afternoon, they will also be smiling,” he excitedly said.

However, Jele said the incentive was not to say they should offer incentives to the players for them to perform. “I am going to have a heart to heart conversation with them because it’s not just about being offered money to perform but this is expected in every game at Highlanders,” he said.

He further thanked the hordes of supporters who braved the cold night to rally behind the club in this tough game. A couple of the players when reached confirmed the incentive too and said they would have still played the same way even without it and look to build from the Green Mamba game.
